PADI TecRec, or Technical Diving, is a series of courses offered by PADI Instructors that allows divers to go beyond the traditional limits of recreational diving, extending their diving capabilities beyond the standard recreational limits.
Tec divers can explore depths deeper than 40 metres, including caves, shipwrecks, and other special environments that are not accessible to most recreational divers.
Tec diving involves using specialized gas mixtures, decompression procedures, and highly specialized equipment.
The TecRec program includes courses like Tec 40, Tec 45, Tec 50, and Tec Trimix, each designed to progressively train divers in technical diving skills and knowledge, for example, the Tec 40 course is the entry point to technical diving, where divers learn to make limited decompression dives to 40 metres and use up to 50% oxygen as a decompression gas.
PADI TecRec courses are known for setting the standard in technical diver training, providing a robust and realistic training experience that results in confident and competent divers.
If you’re interested in expanding your diving skills and exploring new underwater environments, PADI TecRec might be the next step in your diving journey.
As a TecRec Instructor, you can teach a range of courses, such as Tec 40, Tec 45, Tec 50, and various Trimix courses. This includes teaching divers to use specialized equipment and techniques for diving beyond recreational limits, managing potential hazards of deeper depths, extended durations, or long distances in overhead environments like wrecks and caves.
TecRec Instructors can also become qualified to teach courses using closed-circuit rebreathers (CCRs), with levels such as Tec 40 CCR, Tec 60 CCR, and Tec 100 CCR Instructor. They may also offer distinctive specialty courses in technical diving, like Cave Diver, Advanced Wreck Diver, and Technical Rescue Diver.
There is a growing market for technical diving, and accordingly, the demand for qualified PADI TecRec Instructors is increasing. As a TecRec Instructor, you’ll have the opportunity to train active divers in advanced diving skills and help them explore parts of the underwater world that are beyond the reach of mainstream sport diving.
If you’re interested in advancing your diving career and have a keen interest in technical diving, becoming a PADI TecRec Instructor could be a rewarding path.
